Warning To Dog Owners (Alabama Rot) Warning To Dog Owners (Alabama Rot)

A Hindon village dog was diagnosed with Alabama Rot (December 2017). Please be aware that this is a medical condition which is often fatal unless treated very quickly.

Dog owners should take great care and keep away from wooded areas and marshy ground especially after it has rained. If the dogs feet are muddy, wash after the walk.

  • Alabama rot causes skin lesions and can cause fatal kidney disease
  • The cause of Alabama rot is unknown, but most dogs that need treatment have been walked in muddy, woodland areas
  • If you notice symptoms of Alabama rot, such as lesions, sores or ulcers on your dog’s legs, paws or face, contact your vet immediately
